Manuscript Preparation Guidelines

Authors must prepare manuscripts according to the following guidelines before submission. Proper formatting ensures a smooth peer-review process and professional publication quality. Submissions that do not meet these requirements may be returned for correction prior to review.


1. General Formatting Requirements

1.1 Document Format

  • File Type: Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or LaTeX with PDF proof

  • Page Size: A4 (21 × 29.7 cm)

  • Margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides

  • Line Spacing: 1.15 or 1.5 line spacing

  • Font:

    • Times New Roman, size 12

    • Heading 1: size 14, bold

    • Heading 2: size 13, bold

  • Alignment: Justified

  • Paragraph Indentation: 0.3–0.5 inches

  • Number of Columns: Single column throughout the manuscript

1.2 Length of Manuscript

  • Research Articles: 4,000–12,000 words

  • Review Articles: 5,000–15,000 words

  • Short Communications: 2,000–4,000 words

  • Case Studies: 2,000–6,000 words

Longer manuscripts may be considered if justified.


2. Manuscript Structure

A manuscript must contain the following sections in the listed order:

  1. Title Page

  2. Abstract

  3. Keywords

  4. Introduction

  5. Literature Review (if applicable)

  6. Methodology

  7. Results & Analysis

  8. Discussion

  9. Conclusion

  10. Acknowledgments

  11. Funding Statement

  12. Conflict of Interest Declaration

  13. References

  14. Appendices (if any)


3. Title Page Format

The title page must include:

3.1 Manuscript Title

  • Concise, informative, and limited to 15–20 words

  • Avoid abbreviations and formulas

3.2 Authors’ Information

For each author:

  • Full Name

  • Institutional Affiliation (with department)

  • Country

  • ORCID iD (mandatory for corresponding author)

  • Email Address

  • Corresponding Author (clearly indicated)

3.3 Author Contribution Statement

Must follow CRediT taxonomy:

  • Conceptualization

  • Methodology

  • Data Curation

  • Writing – Original Draft

  • Writing – Review & Editing

  • Supervision

  • Funding Acquisition
    (Already created on your Authorship Contribution Page)


4. Abstract & Keywords

4.1 Abstract

  • Structured (recommended) or unstructured

  • 150–300 words

  • Include:

    • Background

    • Purpose

    • Methodology

    • Key findings

    • Implications

    • Conclusion

No citations in abstracts.

4.2 Keywords

  • 4–8 keywords

  • Alphabetically listed

  • Standardized terms, ideally from:

    • JEL Classification

    • MeSH (if interdisciplinary)


5. Headings & Subheadings

Use a clear and consistent hierarchy:

  • Heading 1: Bold, 14pt

  • Heading 2: Bold, 13pt

  • Heading 3: Italic, 12pt

  • Heading 4: Regular, 12pt

Numbering is optional but recommended for longer papers (e.g., 1. Introduction, 1.1 Subsection).


6. Tables, Figures & Illustrations

6.1 Tables

  • Number sequentially: Table 1, Table 2…

  • Title above the table

  • Notes below the table

  • Use clear, readable fonts

  • Avoid vertical lines

6.2 Figures

  • Number sequentially: Figure 1, Figure 2…

  • High resolution (minimum 300 dpi)

  • Formats accepted: PNG, JPG, TIFF, EPS

  • Captions placed below figures

6.3 Graphs & Charts

  • Use clean, minimal style

  • Ensure all axes and units are labeled

  • Colors accessible to color-blind readers

6.4 Permissions for Third-Party Material

Authors must obtain permission for:

  • Reused figures

  • Adapted tables

  • Data visualizations from published sources


7. Equations & Mathematical Expressions

  • Use MathType or built-in equation editors

  • Number equations consecutively:
    (1), (2), (3)

  • Variables should be italicized

  • Clearly define all variables upon first use


8. Abbreviations & Units

8.1 Abbreviations

  • Spell out at first use

  • Avoid excessive abbreviations

8.2 Units of Measurement

  • Use SI Units

  • Billion = "bn", Million = "mn" (optional but consistent)


9. Data, Methodology & Transparency Standards

GJEFM follows open science principles.

Authors must ensure:

  • Methodology is replicable

  • Data sources are cited

  • Statistical tools/software are identified

  • Empirical models are fully specified

  • For surveys/experiments: ethical approval is indicated

Data availability statements are recommended.


10. References

10.1 Citation Style

GJEFM uses APA 7th Edition referencing format.

10.2 In-Text Citations

  • (Author, Year) for paraphrasing

  • (Author, Year, p. XX) for direct quotes

10.3 Reference List Formatting

Examples:

Journal Article:
Lastname, A., & Lastname, B. (Year). Title of article. Journal Name, volume(issue), pages. https://doi.org/xxxx

Book:
Lastname, A. (Year). Title of the book. Publisher.

Web Source:
Organization Name. (Year). Title. URL

All references must be accurate, complete, and verifiable.


11. Ethical Compliance Statements

Manuscripts must include the following (mandatory):

  • Conflict of Interest

  • Funding Statement

  • Ethical approval (for human/animal data)

  • Author Contribution (CRediT)

These ensure compliance with COPE, ICMJE, and Elsevier ethical standards.


12. Supplementary Files

Authors may include:

  • Datasets

  • Additional tables

  • Extended formulas

  • Code scripts (Python, R, Stata)

  • Questionnaire templates

Supplementary files must be clearly labeled.


13. File Naming Convention

Use the following structure:
GJEFM_FirstAuthorLastName_ArticleType_Year

Example:

14. Final Checklist Before Submission

✔ Manuscript formatted according to guidelines
✔ All authors listed with correct affiliations
